Following the hurricane-force storm in December 2007 in Lewis County, Washington State Parks Foundation (WSPF) applied for and received a generous $100,000 grant from The Boeing Company to assist in repairing damaged segments of the Willapa Hills Trail. The storm lead to the flooding of the Chehalis river system which destroyed fish-friendly culverts, spawning habitats, natural vegetation, and segments of recreational trail. Initially, this grant funding was used to restore a functioning habitat protected from future flooding. In 2014, remaining funds from the Boeing grant in addition to capital dollars and funding from Lewis County Community Trails were applied towards designing, constructing, and repairing Bridge 27.
