Hope Island State Park is a 106-acre marine camping park on the western side of the state in Mason County, Puget Sound. This quiet island is reachable only by boat. Covered with old-growth forests and saltwater marshes, the park features a beach one-and-a-half miles long. Hope Island was named by Commander Charles Wilkes for one of his crew in 1841. Wilkes was engaged in the mission of charting Puget Sound.

Review of Hope Island (Mason)
It is easy to see why Hope Island in southern Puget Sound is a popular destination for those wanting the adventure of island camping. A small forest campground is located right off the south beach near the park ‘entrance’, with a rack for canoe/kayak storage. The loop trail around the island is wonderful with a variety of trees and birds. Highly recommended!

Review of Hope Island (Mason)
All the nice things folks have said in other reviews are true, it is a wonderful destination. I live ~3 miles away and visit often, But they do not permit reservations and the campsites are nearly always full. This is true with all the the marine parks I have visited. The only ones with room are the ones located on the mainland (not islands) where there is also motor vehicle camping. But that means that you either leave your boat a long distance from you camp where anyone can take it or you somehow lug it up to your campsite.
